Mark Zuckerberg Introduces Next-Generation Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
Menlo Park, California – Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg officially unveiled the company’s latest leap in wearable technology: the advanced Ray-Ban Smart Glasses featuring a miniature display integrated directly into the lens.
These glasses showcase Meta’s mission to reduce reliance on smartphones, instead allowing users to interact with AI, manage messages, capture moments, and stay connected — all from stylish eyewear that resembles everyday sunglasses or prescription lenses.
The Vision Behind Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
According to Zuckerberg, “Glasses are the ideal form factor for personal super intelligence. They let you stay present while accessing AI capabilities that improve communication, memory, and awareness.”
Meta announced the news at its annual Connect event, where it showcased the latest innovations in AI, augmented reality, and wearables. Alongside the Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Display, Meta also introduced the updated Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Gen 2, new sport-focused eyewear, and new entertainment experiences for its Quest 3 VR headset, including a Disney+ partnership for Horizon.

Growing Adoption of Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
Many still see smart glasses as a niche product, but demand is rapidly growing. Meta’s partner EssilorLuxottica reported that revenue from Ray-Ban Smart Glasses more than tripled year-over-year. The company is now targeting production of 10 million pairs annually by 2026.
Rocco Basilico, EssilorLuxottica’s Chief Wearables Officer, emphasized: “Wearing your favorite Ray-Ban design while gaining instant access to information and AI-powered features is a breakthrough. This launch marks our biggest step so far.”

Inside the Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Display
The new Display model enhances user interaction with a discreet screen projected into the right lens, enabling users to send and view messages, capture media, join video calls, browse Instagram Reels, and even access live navigation without looking at a phone.
Additional AI features include real-time translation, live captioning, and the ability to save entire conversations as transcripts in the Meta AI app — a particularly useful function for professionals like journalists.
Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Gen 2 Upgrades
The Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Gen 2 offers stronger battery life (8 hours, with 48 extra via case), new colors, and upgraded 3K video recording. Later updates will include slow-motion and hyperlapse video support.
Meta also revealed an opt-in “conversation focus” tool that amplifies speech in noisy environments, improving face-to-face communication.
Though some live demos experienced technical glitches, Zuckerberg confirmed that the product is on a trajectory similar to the most successful consumer electronics in history.

Meta Oakley Vanguard Sports Glasses: Smart Gear for Athletes
Meta created the Oakley Vanguard Sports Glasses ($499) for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. These smart glasses sync with Strava and Garmin, letting users track workouts seamlessly. The Meta AI app’s new “workouts” section adds more value by displaying activity stats, photos, videos, and AI-powered summaries.
With enhanced speakers and a battery life of up to nine hours, they deliver uninterrupted music even on windy rides. Their under-arm control buttons make them helmet-friendly, while the center-mounted 3K camera offers a wider field of view for immersive video recording. Plus, the glasses are dust- and water-resistant, making them a solid choice for extreme conditions.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, they even perform well while surfing.
